Conakry, 19 February 2025 \u2013 From 3 to 6 February, Winning Consortium Simandou (WCS) took part in the Mining Indaba conference in South Africa. The CEO of Winning Consortium Holding (WCH), Prof. Sophie Lv, and the Vice-President of Baowu Resources, Jiang Gongyang, showcased the progress of the Simandou project and Guinea\u2019s broader mining potential.<\/p>\n\n

Throughout the conference, WCS hosted a prominent stand that not only spotlighted recent advances on the Simandou project but also marked the first joint exhibition by WCS and Baowu Resources, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Baowu, the world\u2019s largest steel producer. The booth provided an interactive platform for visitors to discover the company\u2019s contributions to Simandou\u2014Africa\u2019s largest mining project. WCS underlined how Simandou, with its integrated infrastructure\u2014600 kilometres of railway running across Guinea and a port at Morebaya\u2014will sustainably stimulate the country\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n\n

Since work resumed in March 2023, major milestones have been achieved:\u00a0 preparatory works for 28 km of tunnels are complete, foundations for 206 bridges have been laid, and 50 % of the beams have been installed<\/strong>. Moreover, 65 % of project financing is secured, and the first iron-ore exports are targeted for the end of 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

During the Guinea Country Showcase, <\/strong>,WCS reaffirmed its commitment to ,developing local talent. Prof. Sophie Lv <\/strong>,stated:\n\u201cAt WCS, we know our greatest asset is our people. That\u2019s why we continually invest in their professional development. We provide tailor-made training programmes that enable our staff to reach their full potential. Many of these programmes are delivered in both Guinea and China. For example, since 2023 WCS has offered Guinean managers training in China on best-practice management techniques.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

She also praised the Guinean Government\u2019s <\/strong> efforts to promote the mining sector and underscored the importance of partnerships for the success of the Simandou project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Jiang Gongyang, Vice-President of Baowu Resources, added:\n\u201cBeyond its immense potential\u2014already attracting strong interest from global iron-and-steel players\u2014the Simandou project will make a significant contribution to the steel industry\u2019s green, low-carbon transition. Thanks to the combined efforts of all partners, we are fully confident that we will meet the goal of bringing the project into production by year-end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

La PDG de\u00a0WCH (Winning Consortium Holding), Pr. Sophie Lv, et le\u00a0Vice-Pr\u00e9sident de Baowu Resources, Jiang Gongyang, ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 les\u00a0progr\u00e8s du projet Simandou\u00a0et le\u00a0potentiel minier de la Guin\u00e9e. WCS a ainsi soulign\u00e9 comment Simandou, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses infrastructures int\u00e9gr\u00e9es \u2013 un chemin de fer de 600 kilom\u00e8tres parcourant la Guin\u00e9e et un port \u00e0 Morebaya -, allait stimuler de fa\u00e7on durable la croissance \u00e9conomique du pays. Depuis la reprise des travaux en\u00a0mars 2023, des avanc\u00e9es majeures ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es :\u00a0ach\u00e8vement des travaux pr\u00e9paratoires pour 28 km de tunnels, fondations des 206 ponts pos\u00e9es et 50 % des poutres install\u00e9es. Par ailleurs,\u00a065 % du financement du projet est s\u00e9curis\u00e9, et la\u00a0premi\u00e8re exportation de minerai de fer est pr\u00e9vue d\u2019ici fin 2025.
